Soft pinks and romance…

Posted on: August 2nd, 2014 by Carolyn No Comments

Dreamy shades of soft pinks compliment this elegant and sophisticated wedding, perfectly.  I love the beautiful lace detail in Jenny`s dress, not to mention her incredible ring!  Let`s talk about her veil.  I find there is nothing more striking than a bride with a veil…it adds an extra touch of romance and makes for exquisite photographs.  Like anything else related to weddings, veils have their trends but I believe a veil is personal and can be used to reflect a bride`s personality.  A portrait photograph of a bride with her veil holds so much hope, anticipation and excitement before she makes that memorable and often very emotional walk down the aisle.  Wow but I do love everything about a wedding day!  Thank you to Jo Cole Photography  for these gorgeous images taken at the Fairmont, Abu Dhabi.

Words from the bride:

Briefly explain how you met…

I grew up and went to school in Abu Dhabi so we had mutual friends although he wasn’t in the same school as me.   We started dating when we were 18.

 How did he propose…

On holiday in Langkawi in Malaysia – went for a meal by the pool and when we got back to the room the balcony was all set up with candles and there was a note addressed to me!

The highlight of your wedding day…

Honestly, the whole day! I couldn’t pick out a specific part.

Any advice you can suggest to brides planning their wedding in Dubai…

Make sure there is plenty of time to plan and organise! I planned mine while I was living in Australia so it was a little more difficult. Even though a lot of the vendors will say they can’t book that early in advance, being typical UAE! It’s not true! Get things booked in! Do lots of research and meet with all your vendors. ‘Bride club me‘ website was really really helpful for me and they answer any of your questions and give you suggestions which was great.

Did you use any suppliers from Dubai…

Our invitations were printed here by Dadu’s family friend as a wedding gift.  Our wedding favors were chocolates from Chocolala in Abu Dhabi – everyone commented on how delicious they were!  My engagement ring was purchased in Abu Dhabi from Carcassonne Gold and Diamonds. Dadus wedding ring was also from there and my wedding ring was custom made by the same shop to fit around my engagement ring.  As I planned my wedding from Australia my dress and bridesmaids dresses were purchased over there and many of the decorations I made my self or got from eBay and etsy.

Tell us about your dress…

My dress was a princess style, tulle dress in a blush colour with ivory lace at the top and flowing through the skirt. I got it from a shop in Perth, Australia called Hob Nob and the brand is called Halo. I had to travel on emirates with the dress but luckily they hung it up for me!

Any challenges while planning your wedding…

Definitely being in a different country to where it was held was a challenge! Also here in the UAE the weddings are huge and it is a huge business so for many things there are so many options to choose from, from the venue to the flowers to the entertainment.  So just having the time to research everything down to the last detail helps a lot. I changed my mind on a few things over the year and a half I was planning it for!

Any DIY elements in your wedding…

I did a lot of things myself for the wedding as I think it is a nice personal touch. I made the table numbers by paper mâché – 3D numbers painted silver and then covered in silver glitter. I also made an aisle runner from silk petals. I made my wishing well. I also made my own table plan, thank you notes for the table, notices, signs and bunting for the guest book table and the candy buffet.

What song did you choose for your first dance…

‘By your side’ by Sade.

What did you have as favours…

I bought flat favour boxes from etsy and put them all together with the Chocolala chocolates inside. I also bought fans from eBay and printed our names and wedding date on them and left them on the chairs for the ceremony. Tiffany bracelets for the bridesmaids, cufflinks for the ushers and necklaces for the flower girls

Any activities to keep the guests busy while you had photographs…

While we had our couple photos done it was our cocktail reception where champagne and canapés were served with jazz type background music.

What made your wedding unique…

I think the dabke dancers were a special touch to the wedding especially for my side of the family who have never and will probably never again experience an Arabic wedding. It was also all new to me and had no idea what to expect when we followed them into the ballroom!!
