The doors are open.  Your patio furniture has been washed down.  It`s time to host an outdoor party. Why not organize an evening picnic in your garden?  Everyone loves a chilled vibe and there is nothing more relaxing than lying on the grass under the stars enjoying good company and good food.  So here are a few tips to ensure you keep things low key but enjoyable…

1. Keep it casual…

I love setting a beautiful table and putting in that extra bit of effort but when you are entertaining outdoors it is perfectly acceptable to keep things simple, relaxed and chic.  Use picnic blankets and cushions combined with outdoor furniture creating a few different seating options to suit everyone.

2. Lighting…

Keep lighting to candles and lanterns but allow for enough light so that your guests can see what you are eating.  Stringing fairy lights around the garden will add that wow factor without too much effort.

3. Food…

Choosing easy to eat finger type food will ensure your guests can eat easily while sitting on the floor.  Think carefully about food that is easy to pass around, not too messy and still tasty.

4.  Drinks…

Think about having a little beverage station.  That way your guests can help themselves.I love the idea of buckets containing the bottles surrounded by ice, as well as cute jars with straws for the drinks.  Keep things fresh and cool, a sprig of mint, a slice of lemon and a block of ice are sure to do the trick.

5. Keep it cosy…

With the summer heat barely over, it is hard to believe that evenings can get chilly here.  Having a few throws available in baskets means your guests can snuggle up and keep warm if they feel a little chilly.

6. Have some fun…

If you feel up to it, you could set up a few outdoor games to play before the sun sets for example croquet.

7. Host as much as you can….

Before you know it, we will be back in the AC or escaping the summer heat by climbing on an aeroplane!
