Once Upon a Tea Time

Posted on: May 5th, 2014 by Carolyn No Comments

Setting the tea tray and baking a fresh batch of scones is sure to make a friend popping over for a catch up, feel extra special. Most ladies I know, love the idea of a high tea with beautiful cups and saucers and cake stands, with delicious treats.  For my bridal shower in South Africa I received my very first antique tea set from my mum to start off my collection and I hope to add to it over the years.

Pastel tones, floral prints, ribbons, freshly picked flowers and petit fours all come flooding to mind when I think of how one could use these beautiful items from Once Upon a Tea Time for a kitchen tea, bridal shower, wedding or baby shower.  Each piece has been uniquely chosen and the best part is that nothing needs to match, I think the more variety in colours and patterns the better as this creates a bo-ho feel to your look.  If you are thinking about creating an event to stand the test of time involving a little bit of old school charm  Once upon a Tea Time can help you to add a touch of something special with their gorgeous vintage-style tea sets and other decorative accessories.

Briefly describe your business…

Once Upon a Tea Time is a tea party hiring service and was started by the love for pretty china. What began with four teacups and a teapot, has now turned into a continuously growing collection of teacups, dinner plates, some milk bottles, and more.

What inspires you…

I love all things vintage and floral and that is where a lot of inspiration comes from. In general I think its important to always stay inspired so that you can go on and do something great, and if your stuck Pinterest may help.

What you love about the UAE …

What I love most about the UAE is the multicultural aspect it’s so blended here and it’s beautiful.

Your favourite place to go for tea and cake…

The Observation Deck at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi does a nice high tea and with a great view at 300 meters up.

If you could choose one product of yours that you love, what would it be and why…

One item is so hard to choose, but it would have to be a blue dinner plate that is based on 18th century porcelain that was from the personal collection of a member of the Vanderbilt family in the US.

Describe `once upon a tea time` in three words…

Beautifully unique pieces

One item from your own house that you love…

It would have to be my antique Indian sideboard. It has so much character and the doors are quite fragile, but it’s absolutely beautiful.

Your favourite destination…

My favourite destination is Catalina Island, it’s a small island about an hours boat ride off the cost of LA. It’s such a cute quaint place with no cars, people drive around on golf carts and bikes. It’s not an exotic far off location, but I remember going as a child which gives it a sentimental element.
