We met at University through mutual friends and just had an instant connection, when you know, you know!
My parents got married in Greece 33 years ago so we have been lucky enough to spend many family holidays there. Gray had heard of Skiathos for many years and it was on vacation last year that we finally went there together. One evening I thought we were meeting my brothers for a sundowner but Gray had other plans for us. He had packed a picnic with plenty wine, and we sat overlooking my favourite beach where he then proposed at sunset. It was so incredibly magical. We sat overlooking the island for a few hours as I had plenty questions to ask him of course!! We then continued to celebrate with my whole family into the early hours of the morning. Incredible memories and a day we will never forget – he most certainly nailed it, and I can’t wait to take our kids there one day too.
The highlight of your wedding day…
There were just so many highlights so very hard to select one.
Walking down the aisle with my Dad while one of our friends, Georgie sang and seeing Gray for the first time was so incredibly special. Another would definitely be listening to all the speeches, especially Grays speech. I still read it often.
Tell us about your dress…
I was hoping to buy my wedding dress but after trying on a number of different dresses I didn’t find any that I absolutely loved! I then came across the talented Casey Jeanne, and after our first meeting I stopped going to all bridal shops, I just knew she understood me. Her attention to detail is incredible and she makes dresses to fit you and your specific body type which is why I love her designs. Her beautiful imported fabrics also definitely sealed the deal for me!
Your wedding venue…
Our farm has been in our family for 117 years so getting married on Oak Valley was always a dream of mine! Although a farm wedding means a lot of extra logistics it was 100% worth it. Our ceremony took place near the vineyards and we had our reception in a glass marquee on the lawn of the Pool Room Restaurant.
Any advice you can suggest to brides planning their own wedding…
You can never be too organized! Parts of the planning process can be cumbersome but try and enjoy every little bit of it as the more prepared you are, the more you enjoy yourself on the day. Get your fiancé involved, Gray helped with every element and I couldn’t have done it without him. Another major thing to remember is to learn to trust your suppliers, they know what they are doing so trust them to do their job.
Your favourite part of planning your wedding…
Planning it together with Gray was just the best! We would brainstorm different ideas and there wasn’t any element he wasn’t aware of. I loved the fact he got so involved and was so whiling to help and contribute whenever he could.
Any DIY elements at your wedding…
Growing up on a flower farm made me fall in love with flowers from a young age and I now co-own a décor and styling company, Nineteen Eighty Five. Our team assisted me with all the floral and décor elements for our wedding. This was definitely where I felt I wanted to do something different so we customized some of the vases using gold vinyl stickers, which added a pop of colour and was a definite point of difference.
Any challenges while planning your wedding…
The guest list is by far the toughest part as you will always leave some people off, however you simply can’t accommodate everyone and I think people understand that too. Well…. until they plan their own wedding anyways!
Your first dance…
Ed Sheeran – Thinking out loud….we wanted a song that lyrically captured our feelings for each other, yet was popular and that people would know and enjoy.
A word from the bride…
Enjoy the build up to your wedding day, so many people have travelled for you so spend the time with family and friends. It’s very rare you get to see all your favourite people in one room, so enjoy and don’t stress over the small things. Remember guests don’t always know what was “meant to be” on the day anyway!
Don’t go home too early, as you get to catch up with most of your guests after all the formalities are over! We danced with our friends and family until the early hours of the morning and I am so glad we did!
